An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Proud Papa

(Proverbs 23:16 KJV)  Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

This is a father speaking.  In the previous verse you see that Solomon is talking to his son.  He is sharing the joy his son brings him.  Two things hit me this morning.

First, It is a real joy when you hear your children repeating things you have taught them.  I even enjoy it when they give me some gentle correction using words that I gave them.  At that point you know that you can “rejoice” (5937).  If your children are young you need to ask yourself what kind of vocabulary and behavior you are modeling to them.

Second, let your children know when you are proud of them.  That is what Solomon is doing.  That is wisdom.

So?  Your life is having an effect on others even if you don’t have children.  Let it be the kind of example that causes God to rejoice.
