An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Segue

Psalms 101:1 (KJV) [[A Psalm of David.]] I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing.

(Proverbs 11 also read)

As I started reading this Psalm, I noted it was written by David, and that he seemed to be rejoicing in the Lord.  That seems pretty obvious but after I got down a few verses it seemed to change, and I couldn’t figure out what was going on.  Then I realized that somewhere in this passage of scripture, it went from David talking about his joy to God expressing His perspective on His people.

If you have your Bible look down through it.  Toward the end, it is clear that it is God speaking.  Wouldn’t it be great if we could be so in tune in our worship, that God speaks to our hearts the way God spoke to David.  I don’t expect that we will start writing scripture, we are past that stage, but God can certainly speak to us.

So?  Worship.  Sing out.  Maybe write some things down.  Especially if you write things, it’s possible that God will go back and have you read it again later and again speak to your heart.  I wouldn’t advise publishing it as a new revelation.  God can speak to you through what He has already provided.

Interior Decoration

(Psa 101:3 KJV)  I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

(Proverbs 20 also read)

This is good advice for those of us who are not kings, just as it was for David himself.  One of the first steps we need to take is evaluate the value of what we put in our presence and avoid the “wicked” (worthless NASB) (1100).  This word in the Hebrew is the source of a name you might recognize, Belial.  At this point it just means worthless.  By the time of Paul it will become a proper name for Satan,

(2Co 6:15 KJV)  And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
This could be a simple reminder about how we decorate our home, the books we read, the video products we watch and so forth.  All of those things influence how we think and how we act.  It may be a small push but over time it can influence.

So?  Righteous living involves being aware of our environment and how we can effect it.  The picture on our wall may not be a sin but there might be a better choice that draws our attention toward the good things of creation.  In my old age I am really getting into pictures of my grandchildren.  They automatically bring thoughts of thanksgiving to my heart.
