An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

It Is Not Romantic

(Pro 6:34 KJV)  For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

Isn’t “jealousy” (7068) associated with the color green?  Maybe I am thinking of envy.  Maybe it is purple.  I don’t think it is a Biblical association.  What is Biblical is the danger associated with this emotion.  At the root it means zeal but the only place it is used that might be positive is in relation to a zeal for the house of the Lord.  Even there it consumes.

The inference is that our passion for something can take control of us and cause us to lose control.  It is “the rage” (enrages NASB) (2534).  It makes us hot.  There are certain things that turn off our mental control and rational response.  Jealousy is one of them.

So?  Are you a jealous person?  It isn’t cute.  It isn’t romantic.  It is sin.  It is time to face the music and call a tantrum a tantrum.
