An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Pit Not Poker

(Pro 1:21 KJV)  She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

Wisdom is needed in the “concourse” (noisy NASB) (1993).  I think most translations miss this.  We try to pretty it up and put it in a certain location.  This is the word for being a rowdy drunk.  It is the word for an air-head, gossipy, undisciplined thirteen year old girl.  It has the idea of deliberate chaos.  This is a wild game of pit not a tense poker hand.

We tend to think that spiritual things happen in the quiet of the study or in one-on-one moments, and they do.  The point here is that wisdom is appropriate for the swap meet and the auction house also.  Will people listen?  Probably not.  There is no indication they listen here either.

So?  We want results but they are not our responsibility.  Remember,
(1Co 3:6 KJV)  I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
That does not remove the responsibility from us to plant and water.  We are to do our best.  Wisdom will take root and grow.  Or not.  We need to do our part.  Today.  Maybe in the next five minutes.
