An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Start with the Foundation

(Pro 9:11 KJV)  For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

Wisdom can give you a longer life.  This is not some mysterious drug or medical procedure.  It is not a superstitious formula.  It is a result of applying the patterns, standards and laws of God to our everyday life.  In the end that is what wisdom comes down to.  I know that when we think of Solomon being wise we look at the Biblical example of the two women claiming the same child.  There are stories, which I don’t think are in the Bible, of him determining which flower was real because he observed a bee flying around them.  That is all well and good.

In the final analysis what we think of as wisdom did not serve Solomon well because he turned his heart away from the Lord.  Keep in mind that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  If you cease to live in awe of God you lose all perspective and no amount of wise sayings will get you out of your rut.

So?  Start with the foundation and then build.  Don’t expect the results you think should come if you build the roof first and wonder why there is water on the floor.
