An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Pick Up Lines

(Pro 7:15 KJV)  Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

Have you noticed how often people tell us what we want to hear, at least as long as they want something from us.  This woman says she was looking for this young man.  He believed her.  I would want to know what would have happened if he had been delayed or got a better offer.  I think in that case she would have used the same line on the next guy who caught her eye.

This is a contrast to the way God speaks to us.  First, He does not worry about telling us what we want to hear.  In fact, what God says often contradicts our personal preferences.  His word is as eternal just like He is.  The “line” He has for you will be basically the same for the next soul whether you accept or not.

So?  Think about it.  God is not out offering pick-up lines.  He is offering forgiveness and an upright life.  I guess it depends on what you are looking for.
