An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Goals

(Pro 27:5 KJV)  Open rebuke is better than secret love.

How often have you heard something like this?  Our lives are full of advice which we might nod to intellectually but go full berserk against in our daily life.  When we look back we will say things like, “I wish they had told me at the time.”  No we don’t.  We were happy with the lie because it was what we wanted to hear.

That does not make this verse any less true, just hard to live up to.  Christians have been sold a bill of goods on things like “seeker friendly services” and “ministering to people’s needs”.  We are not the church so that we can have rock music, coffee bars and food banks.  We are the church because the world is lost in sin and needs a redeemer.  They don’t want to hear it.  We don’t want to say it.

So?  We need to remind ourselves regularly what the stakes are.  We are not in competition for the sportsmanship trophy.  We are trying to cut into the flow of souls into hell.
