An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Worse Than Jail Bait

(Proverbs 22:25 KJV)  Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

A different word for “snare” (4170) is used in verse 5.  This time we set the trap ourselves.  Here the word has more of the idea of bait rather than the trap itself.  There are activities, values, attitudes that we want to embrace because they seem to be attractive.  Or it could be that others are doing them and we want to be included.  Possibly they are not bad in themselves.  When you put cheese in a mouse trap all cheese does not become dangerous.

So?  Learn what attracts you and make sure that it is not a lure used by Satan, or just your carnal nature, to draw you toward the dark side.  Be really careful of unthinking habits.  Some are just the matter of a color of sox.  Others might put your soul at risk.
