An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Law Abiding

(Proverbs 28:4 KJV)  They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

This chapter makes several references to the “law” (8451) [torah].  In each case the blessed are the ones who follow the law and the cursed are those who do not.  The concept of law is what makes Christian culture different.  There is a reason that Christians tend to be conservative and believe that the Constitution means what it says.  We feel the same way about the Bible.

These references are talking about the Law, the Old Testament.  It is not talking about civil law.  I understand that, but the principle bleeds over from our spiritual walk to our citizen walk.  We believe that the written law is to be obeyed, not twisted for our own purposes.  The “wicked” (7563) believe that the law is to be interpreted for their own goals.

So?  It is not a matter of politics, it is a matter of eternity.  Walk the narrow road.  It is the road of blessing.
