An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Pit Stop

(Proverbs 23:27 KJV)  For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

I think this is describing a grave.  I have dug a few trenches in my life.  Usually they are not “deep” (6013).  I have dug a few holes.  Usually they are not “narrow” (6862a).  A grave fits the bill.  And a grave is promised to those who follow the wrong path.

The verse talks about a “harlot” (2181).  Proverbs as a whole lays out many other traps we can fall into, from sloth to murder.  We are reminded of the dangers so that we can be reminded of the solution.

So?  Watch your step.  Walk in righteousness.  Know that honest failure and repented sin can be taken care of.  Avoid the pits.
