An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Pay to Play

(Pro 13:18 KJV)  Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

One of the reasons people become spiritually weak is because they stop eating spiritually.  What happens to the body also happens to the soul.  Whether you want to emphasis the “discipline” (4148) of the NASB or the “instruction” of the KJV, the other side of the balance applies.  We need to learn.  We need to discipline ourselves for it to happen.

One of the insidious lies of the modern educational system is that learning has to be fun.  Learning can be fun.  It is possible that you can sometimes learn better if you are having fun.  Eventually learning depends on effort put into the process.  You can make it more pleasant with the right attitude but you still need to open the book and start reading.

So?  Open the Book.  Listen to the sermon.  Have the discussion.  It will pay off.
