An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Forsake Is a Choice

(Pro 9:6 KJV)  Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

If you read the entire chapter you find two narratives that start out much the same.  In the first, Wisdom is inviting people to dine.  In the second the hostess is the foolish woman.  Which do you choose.  Both make offers.  I think the key is this word “forsake” (5800a).  It is the step in our spiritual lives that everyone wants to leave out.

Part of the marriage vows used to be “forsaking all others”.  I don’t know if it is included any more.  It should be.  The same applies to serving God.  We must be willing to forsake all others.  If we don’t then a divorce is in the works.

So?  Check your priorities.  Make sure you are following Wisdom and not folly.
