An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

And Suddenly

(Psa 44:8-9 KJV)  In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.  But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.

(Proverbs 14 also read)

This is an interesting transition point.  I was reading along and enjoying all the positive statements.  This Psalm seemed to be inspirational.  Then I read the next verse and got the cold water in the face.  This brings up a serious question about how we can feel like we are on track and suddenly God allows life to dump on us.

I don’t know the historical context or what was going on in the heart of the writer.  It makes me wonder though if we sometimes get a bit too smug and complacent with our spiritual walk.  It happens.  At times like that we need a wake up call.  Sometimes it can come from the Holy Spirit pointing it out in a quiet way.  Sometimes it might be a point the preacher made.  Here we have big problems descending on us in our daily lives.

So?  Always be ready to be honest with yourself.  Sickness and suffering do not automatically mean we have drifted into sin but it doesn’t hurt to do some honest seeking.
