An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Says Who?

(Rom 14:1 KJV)  Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

(Proverbs 29 also read)

In Sunday School we were looking at this in the KJV and were asking what is it that we are not supposed to be judging.  As I was sitting there thinking about it the teacher went off down the Matthew 7:1 road about not being judgemental.  That was a pleasant thought but my thinking was more along the lines of “What does the context say?”

If you read down through the chapter you find a list of specific illustrations and they didn’t match up with the teacher’s list at all.  The two examples given were specifically the dietary laws and Sabbath observation.  In other words, the things not to get into debating had to do with keeping the OT laws on eating kosher and worship on Saturday.  It had nothing to do with all the other issues brought up in the class.

So?  Look to the scripture itself for understanding instead of listening to people repeating what they were told and never thought about.
