An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Dangers of Riding High

(Pro 16:19 KJV)  Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

I have been catching up on a lot of the reading I should have done in college.  Among other things I am about a third of the way through The Gulag Archipelago.  This verse reflects the observations of how Communism works in a couple of ways.  It is almost like Solomon had been reading the same book.  One of my questions was who survived under the purges.  It seems that it was only those who kept there heads down and did not stand out, although even those people were often in the wrong place at the wrong time.  The second part of the verse illustrates the way in which the Soviet persecutors of one time period often ended up on the work gangs eventually.

That is just an illustration of how life works.  We are to live humbly, not because we are afraid of political ramifications but because it is the right thing to do.

So?  Godliness is our goal, not dominance.
