An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Talking Heads

(Proverbs 23:19 KJV)  Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

Modern America is full of people who want to talk but don’t want to “hear” (listen NASB) (8085) [shema].  We call people on TV “talking heads”.  We all have people we avoid because we just don’t have time to listen to nothing for a long time.  Thirty times in Proverbs we are told to listen or hear.  It is an important concept.  It is one we continually ignore.

Every once in awhile I become suddenly aware that I am doing the same thing.  Sometimes it is the glazed look in the eyes.  Sometimes it is the Holy Spirit.  I know I am around people who take every comment or concern of another person and turn it back to what they want to talk about.  My prayer is that I will grow beyond that.

So?  Would the world become silent if people started listening or would we just have better communication and less anger?  I think it is worth a try.  I can’t control someone else’s mouth but I can try to control mine.
