An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Hidden Man

Proverbs 23:7 (KJV) For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

Sometimes it is impossible to figure out where people are coming from.  They tell a good story and talk a good line but there seems to be something that is not fitting.  While there is a danger in being judgmental in the wrong way, trust the nudging of the Holy Spirit.  There may be a danger you are unaware of.

I would add that this is also a plea for our own introspection.  It doesn’t hurt to question our own motives.  Remember the call to “judge not” in Matthew 7 is not a call to allow sin but a reminder to check your own eyes for beams.

So?  Just like we check our blood pressure, it is a good idea to look to our spiritual health.

To twist it slightly, I have found that people see you they way they want to see you and then are surprised when they find out you are not what they think. This passage is more about people who pretend to be friendly but have another agenda but both concepts can be applied to self reflection. Maybe?

Probably more definite than a "maybe".
