Proverbs 2:7 (KJV) He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: [he is] a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
In English a “buckler” is a small shield that is more mobile than the larger ones like the Romans carried. The Hebrew word here is not as selective in meaning. The KJV usually just translates it “shield”. Either way it is a protective device.
The other aspect of a shield is that it requires some movement to be effective. If you were in the Roman Legions you might be commanded to raise them because a flight of arrows was on its way. You might be told to form the tortoise formation. If you were being attacked from the right then you might need to move it.
So? Wisdom, our shield, is there to protect us but it requires some attention and application. To me that sums up our spiritual walk or at least one aspect of it.
