An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

First Impressions

Proverbs 7:7 (KJV) And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

The narrator is doing some people watching. If this is just casual then he comes to some startling conclusions about those he observes. When I looked at the basic definitions of some of the words I was impressed by his insights. He sees a bunch of naive, inexperienced young people. He could tell much about them by the way they dressed. They seemed to be the lower classes and young.

What I found interesting was the word for “understanding” or “sense”. The actual Hebrew word is commonly translated “heart”. This refers to the inner man. In this group was one who could be recognized as having no inner strength. I don’t know if this implies that we should have the ability to discern such people or not but it is clear that the evidence was there.

So? There is always the question of what people see when they watch us. That is scary enough but there is also the implication that we should be aware of the shallow people around us.
