An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Prayer Request

Proverbs 20:26 (KJV) A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

We don’t have kings but we have people in authority. It occurred to me that this would be a good prayer request for those people. You do pray for the president, governor, members of congress and so forth, don’t you?  Of course you do.  This will help target those prayers and make them less general.

It is important to appoint and nominate the right people. What this is reminding us of is that it is also important to winnow the wicked.  Pray that the president will get rid of people who are not living up to expectations.

So?  Pray for discernment and action.

My parents believed leaders were appointed by God. In a democracy you pray about your vote. When you have to make a moral compromise to vote for someone who is not as bad as the opposition what do you do? Vote for the best and put it in God's hands? An argument I have heard so many times in my life.

God also can use even the most rebellious leaders. Democracy is not a Biblical concept but the general concept of a representative republic is present in the time of the judges. I guess we live in the times we live in and are expected to be faithful in the options we have. What people don't realize is that when they don't vote they are really voting for the worse choice.

I imagine you will hear the argument many more times.
