An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Well Established

Proverbs 30:5 (KJV) Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

As I compare translations of this verse I am not satisfied with most. I am reflecting on the word the KJV translates “pure” and the NASB of 1977 and 1995 as “tested”. My software tells me this is a verbal adjective. That speaks to me of a process, not a final result. Although I don’t disagree with the idea of pure, I don’t think that is the point here.

It is also in the passive voice. In this place it is reflecting on the process that mankind has gone through over the centuries. We have tested God’s word and found it pure. Past generations testify to that. I hope we can join that chorus and proclaim that we have also found it adequate.

So? We can find the answers to the big questions of life in God’s word. Count on it.
