An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Who, Me?

(Exo 18:21 KJV)  Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

(Proverbs 30 also read)

It is never a bad time to think about the qualities of leadership.  This is the advice of Jethro to Moses.  It would seem here that Jethro is assuming Moses will do the picking.  Later we see that Moses passed at least some of that choosing on to the people.

(Deu 1:13 KJV)  Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.
While we are not looking at pure democracy there is a sense of the people being involved in the picking of their government.  There are four character traits that they were to look for.  I would suggest that they are good for us to look for in our choices, too.

It is always a good time to consider the kind of qualities we should show in our own lives.  We may not be called to leadership politically but all of us will be in positions where leadership is needed.  We need to live in such a way that people will at least consider us.

So?  I would hope these traits are already a part of your life.  If not, I would suggest that you pay attention to the personal priorities and choices you make.
