An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Deeper, Deeper

(Pro 8:17 Brenton)  I love those that love me; and they that seek me shall find me.

We are blessed with a multitude of translations.  That wealth brings responsibility, the responsibility of being stewards of the wealth.  That means reading, meditating and comparing the scriptures.  When I compared the Brenton translation to the NASB it seemed weak.  The NASB says “diligently seek” (7836) which adds a drive that is not in the Brenton translation.  The KJV says to seek early.  When I looked at the Hebrew as compared to the Greek of the Septuagint I could see the difference in the original languages.

In this case the Hebrew brings a richness and depth that you might miss in the Greek.

So?  Some lessons are conveyed better in other languages.  It is the challenge of translation and the reward of study.  Rejoice in the wealth.
