An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Rebellious Submission

(Psa 66:3 KJV)  Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.

(Proverbs 6 also read)

Up to this point this Psalm is fairly typical and then suddenly we have this veering.  You don’t see it very well in the KJV which has “submit” (3584) instead of “feigned obedience”.  Yes, there is action which could be called submission but it is not the genuine submission that God requires.  This is not the lip service that we so often give at work or as children.  In social situations we can get away with saying nice things when we are thinking the opposite.  Not so with God.

God is seeking sincerity and genuine love.  He is after willing obedience rather than this kind of facade.  This reverts back to the concept of free will.  We are not animals of instinct.  We are created in the image of God.  We are to respond to Him on that level.

So?  Being genuine is within our grasp.  Don’t forget God knows what we are thinking.  We have the power of will and the power to give our love and genuine obedience.  It should not be a hard choice but it is more multitudes.
