An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Wicked and Attitude

(Pro 18:3 KJV)  When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

We are here looking at one of the basic differences between the Christian world view and that of your garden variety pagan.  We are not allowed to get carried away against people who differ from us.  Here the difference has to do with behavior.  It isn’t about superficial things like skin color or extrovert/introvert.

You don’t need to go very far to find someone who is living in blatant sin.  We are to disagree with them.  We are to witness to them.  The one thing that Christians cannot do is have “contempt” (937).  This is expressed many ways in the Bible from God telling us that vengeance is His prerogative to Jesus answering about the greatest commandment with the call to love our neighbor as our self.

So?  This is not a call to retire from public life.  It is a call to speak up without lashing out.
