An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

In Other Words

(Pro 1:2 KJV)  To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

I decided this month to pull my old Living Bible off the shelf and read Proverbs from its perspective.  I like the Living Bible.  I have no use for the New Living Translation, or whatever it is called.  One reason is a lack of pretense.  The Living Bible on its title page declares “Paraphrased”.  It does not make any claim to be a “translation” like so many of the modern opinion translations do.  It is called honesty.

I enjoyed reading verse 2,

(Prov 1:2 LB) He wrote them to teach his people how to live - how to act in every circumstance,
The Bible is not really written as a history book or a theology text.  It is a How To book.  It contains history and theology.  It even contains advice on health, but it is primarily God speaking to His people about how they should live.

So?  Let the Bible speak to you.  It doesn’t hurt to refer to some of the modern loose translations as long as you keep coming back to something like the KJV or NASB to get a more accurate understanding.  On to a new month.
