An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Rewards Poster

(Pro 24:20 KJV)  For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

How important is a “reward” (319) to you?  We need to get beyond our response to this idea in our atmosphere of current marketing techniques.  My memory tells me that one store has what they call a “Rewards Card”.  I am not sure what you have to do to get the rewards but I usually find that the cost is more than the benefit.

The word used here means “end”.  It is often used in prophecy to refer to when it all comes together at the climax of time.  In this case it has to do with the final pay off.  Think both temporal and eternal.  Here the emphasis is on the expectations of those living in rebellion and sin.  In verse 14 the emphasis is on those who live upright lives.  Each has a reward.

So?  We tend to focus on what is happening today.  We forget our history and put the promises of God on a back burner.  That can be really dangerous or just a mark of trusting and moving on to other issues.
