An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Tragedy of Wanting

(Pro 9:16 KJV)  Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

This is a good verse to remind us of why it can be useful to compare translations.  I was looking at the KJV and my mind was being fooled by what seemed simple English.  I made the assumption that to “want” (2638) something means to have a desire for it.  Compare that to the NASB which has “lacks”.

(Pro 9:16 NAS77) "Whoever is naive, let him turn in here," And to him who lacks understanding she says,
I know the meaning of “want” that was being used but I was not thinking.

So?  Never stop thinking.  Never stop paying attention.  Sometimes it changes things.
