An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Boxing Lessons

(Pro 12:9 KJV)  He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

In what ways do we “honor” (3513) ourselves?  The Hebrew has the root meaning of making heavy.  You can see how that would work out if we were weighing ourselves on a scale or lining things up by size.  We would put our thumb on the scale or get some risers for our shoes.  I hate to admit it but this is a common trait in human beings.  In a sense we can’t help it.  We are trapped in our bodies.  We only know what we can experience with our senses.

But we were created in the image of God.  That means that we can think outside the box when the box is us.  It means we have access to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.  It also means that we can ignore all that and still put ourselves first.

So?  This is something that we need to be reminded of on a regular basis.  Proverbs is glad to be of service.  Make the best of it.
