An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Get Busy

(Pro 10:5 KJV)  He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

Hard work is a spiritual value.  We need to concede that we live in a day where we all will not labor in the hot sun and literally live by the sweat of our brow.  At the same time there is a concept of effort put out and our pleasure, enjoyment, sense of fulfillment is not the measure of the value of the work.

I don’t see any emotional expression from the sons that says they are into what they are doing.  It is a matter of discipline.  Sometimes it works out that we enjoy it.  Other times we can develop a sense of purpose but the point is that we are being productive in the walk of life.

So?  What is often called the Protestant Work Ethic is a real thing.  It may not be Protestant specific but it is Biblical.
