An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Always Those Pesky Choices

(Pro 14:18 KJV)  The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

Two personality types and two implied results.  We have a choice in which one we are a part of.  The class we occupy is based on a continuous string of decisions not a one time epiphany.  Some people are “simple” (naive NASB) (6612a) by genetics.  In this case they are incapable of getting any deeper into the truth that will set us free.  I doubt if any of us would admit to being a part of that population because in reality there is a bit of mental deficiency involved.  Those people are not the thrust of this verse.

We are here worried about being a part of the intellectually lazy.  Or should I say, we should be worried.  God did not create us to slide blissfully through life with a smile on our face and a film over our eyes.  We were not created in His image to be happy dogs or cynical cats.  We were created to be able to gather and deal with “knowledge” (1874).  We are thinking creatures and thus responsible for the choices that determine our eternal destiny.

So?  We are to study, to put the word of God in our hearts, to present our bodies.  Following Jesus is not a matter of buying a ticket and sitting in the coach.  It is a walk, a following, a growth.  Welcome aboard.
