An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Heart Burn

(Proverbs 6:27 KJV)  Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

You often have a say in the difficulties that confront you.  Sure, there are surprises and hit and runs.  There are economic and political forces that are out of your control.  We know that.  It doesn’t take away from the truth that we often create our own misery.

This is not the “take” (2846) of receiving.  The sense of the Hebrew is to “snatch up.”  It means to grab hold of not just get hit by.  This is grabbing for all the gusto.  This is saying, “I can get away with it.”  This is possibly the person who figures they can enjoy life now and have plenty of time to get right with God later.

It didn’t work last time.  Why should it work today?

So?  Stop making excuses for playing with fire.  Stop turning on the hot water and expecting cold.  Stop thinking you are so smart you can be the one who gets away with it.  Make some cool decisions today.
