(Proverbs 15:10 KJV) Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
“Correction” (Discipline NASB) (4148) is a given. We don’t like to admit it but it is needed. This is not the discipline that comes from within. This is the correction that comes from without. It is not pleasant to be called to account but it is necessary.
That part is not the big issue, though. The real issue is how you react to being confronted. The clear problem here is the person who reacts with hatred. This can come across as anger or coldness. It means that you reject the best intentions of others to help you move forward in life. Notice the two words used for the person who will not be corrected. “Forsakes” (5800a) and “die” (4191). Neither is a pleasant prospect.
So? Be open to those who confront you. They may be totally wrong. You may be totally right. You won’t know until you listen, think and pray on the issue. Happy growing.
