An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Trademark of Truth

(Proverbs 14:5 KJV)  A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

Honesty is one of the trademarks of the follower of Jesus Christ.  If you are a habitual liar and call yourself a Christian we have a definite oxymoron on our hands.  My computer dictionary tells me that the term comes from a Greek word that means “pointedly foolish.”  Certain behaviors are not acceptable for children of God.

We could make a list but the point of this verse is to not “lie” (3576).  That is probably enough to focus on for one day.  Perhaps we can add that lies come under many names:  exaggeration, spin, silence, misdirection.  The list could go on.

So?  Watch your mouth.  Watch your heart.  The two are connected.  What comes out of one starts in the other.  Make sure that the launching pad is right with God.
