An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

No Spoons Involved

(Pro 16:26 KJV)  He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

One of the themes of this chapter is that the desire and direction of our hearts determines where we go in life.  There is an assumption in Proverbs and Psalms at least that our free will determines whether we are open to the directions of the Holy Spirit.  We are either of a righteous disposition or wicked in our inclinations.  This is not salvation but an openness to it.

This is rejected by many who take what I consider an un-Biblical approach to grace.  Our salvation is a gift given by God.  It is not something we earn or deserve.  My question would be, “How does God decide?”  My conviction of free will and the work of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of non-believers says that He gives the gift to those who want it.

So?  God grace?  It will not be spoon fed.  It can be rejected.  It is freely offered.
