An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

 Keep the Focus

(Pro 23:2 KJV)  And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

As I write I am looking at Thanksgiving tomorrow.  When this is posted it will be just before Christmas.  These are two times of celebration and feasting among Christians as well as the general population.  Here the warning is against people who want to take advantage of you and try to buy you off with food.  I would hope that is not a problem in your circle.

But the warning is really about being ruled by our “appetite” (5315).  It is easy during all the rush to shift our focus from the incarnation and the promises of God.  It is almost second nature to get lulled by the physical and forget the spiritual.  This is a reminder.

So?  Celebrate.  Rejoice.  Feast.  And in the midst of it all keep re-engaging with the truth that is behind it all.  Merry Christmas.
