An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

A Different Style of Holiday Buffet

(2Co 12:7 KJV) And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

(Proverbs 12 also read)

Does everyone have a “thorn” (4647) in the “flesh” (4561) [sarx]?  The purpose seems to be to keep us humble.  Paul is not clear exactly what it is that holds him back.  There has been a lot of speculation.  The use of “flesh” here would seem to indicate it is something physical, such as epilepsy or a stutter, but it could have been a person.  We don’t know.

Maybe everyone doesn’t need one.  I guess it is possible that some people are so naturally humble they don’t need any extra measure but it seems to me that often the person with the least to brag about is the most cocky.

Most of us are very good at keeping them off the front page.

So?  If you are struggling with a handicap understand you are not alone, unless that is your handicap.  And don’t forget that the good news is God working through our weaknesses.
