An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

 Dangers of Deceit

(Pro 20:17 KJV)  Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

If you ever read the comics you are familiar with the Peanuts cartoon that has Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown and assuring him that this time she will not pull it away.  After the first two or three times I knew what was coming.  Why didn’t Charlie Brown?  In our lives why do we act like him so often?

One reason we keep falling is optimism.  We believe that this time things will be different.  We are not thinking about us but about the other person or the situation.  We think that we made a mistake but that is rectified now and all will be well.

Sometimes it is just a matter of refusing to admit the sin in our own life.

“Deceit” (falsehood NASB) (8267) is a serious problem.  It is bad enough when we are the target.  It is even worse when we are targeting others.

So?  Be honest with yourself and with others.
