An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

 Wisdom and Law

(Pro 28:7 KJV)  Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

I have been hearing a lot about the law lately.  It is almost universally negative.  That is sad.  While we need to reaffirm that we cannot earn our salvation by our hard word and discipline we also need to remember that Jesus did not throw out the law.

(Mat 5:17 KJV)  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Even the apostle Paul tries to find a balance.
(Rom 3:31 KJV)  Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
We are not saved by our actions.  Paul makes that clear in the well worn scripture,
(Eph 2:8-9 KJV)  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.
But don’t forget the next verse, which seems to be common with people who quote verses 8 and 9,
(Eph 2:10 KJV)  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
So?  Rejoice in the grace that gives you salvation through faith.  Be aware that God expects it to effect the way you live and that does not seem to be optional.
