An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Give God an Excuse

(Pro 3:10 KJV)  So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

I don’t have a barn and I don’t own any “presses” (3342), or “vats” as the NASB calls them.  I think I am free to take these as figurative language for me as a city slicker of the twenty first century.  If you are one of those who reject the idea of tithing then notice that in the previous verse it is talking about your substance and your first fruits.  It is talking about an attitude.

Keep in mind that the attitude is not just yours.  It also includes God’s attitude.  I think it is safe to say that God wants to bless His people.  It would seem to me that He wants to bless those who are faithful and righteous even more.  What kind of attitude do you have that you want God to bless?  Are you committed to holding back or to giving?

So?  Don’t tithe.  I can live with that.  You probably can to but I don’t think you will live as well as you would if your were a joyful giver.  Please notice that there is no pay pal for you to click.
