An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Place of Ice Cream

(Pro 22:4 KJV)  By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

As I write this I am playing catch up because I have been on the road.  The previous comment dealt with the idea of arrogance.  Now I come across “humility” (6038).  This form of the word is only used a few times and is a positive trait.  If you trace it back to its root it becomes very frequent as “affliction”.

It is hard for us to accept that we are expected to endure through hard times.  Modern Americans on the whole don’t know much about affliction.  We think that having the store run out of our favorite flavor of ice cream is a personal tragedy.  We have a lot to learn and learn it we must.

So?  Much of our inner conflict comes from being too self centered and assuming that the world revolves around us.  As I said to a semi-pagan recently in a philosophical discussion, “I am not sure that you are anything but a figment of my imagination.”  Focus on God and go from there.
