An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Be Not Puffed Up

(Pro 20:6 KJV)  Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

It is a verse like this that makes the Strong’s Concordance with the numbering system helpful in looking for understanding.  The NASB uses “loyalty” (2617a) and the KJV “goodness”.  The most common translation in the NASB is “lovingkindness” and in the KJV “mercy”.  This is a very important word.  It is not to be taken lightly.  Usually it refers to action of God.  This warning is about people getting too loud in tooting their own horn.  It is a warning to not try to usurp God’s position.

So?  Be careful about how righteous you think you are.  While it is true we can live moral and upright lives we need to keep in mind that it is through the power given by the Holy Spirit, not through out own strength.
