An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

The Two Step

(Proverbs 28:26 KJV)  He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

The Christian life involves faith and obedience.  Different traditions emphasize one or the other and come up short in the process.  Here we see both placing your faith in the right place, Jesus, and walking in obedience.  You can proof text either one.  You can preach on either one.  To reach the end of the road and find it was the right one requires both.

Truth is truth.  It does not depend on us believing it or accepting it.  It is.  If you think you are smart enough to pick and chose, you lose.  The life of faith is a walk, not an arrival.  Faith in Jesus makes it possible to get on the road.  Think of an escalator guarded by a locked gate.  You can’t get on unless you are given the key.  Once you get through the gate you realize the escalator is running in the wrong direction.  You need to start moving or you will go backwards.

So?  Are you part of the family?  Don’t try to rest on your laurels.  Get moving.  You have plenty of time.  You can make many mistakes.  You can feel a total failure.  You can live an upright life.
