An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

I Wonder As I Wander

(Proverbs 27:8 KJV)  As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

As I approach retirement I think of how often we see people stop working and die within a short time.  I would assume that sometimes the reason they retired was because they were failing physically and knew it.  Other times it comes as a total surprise.  I have heard it postulated that what kills them is the lack of focus.  They have no reason to get up and nothing to do for the day.  I guess they just give up.  I can understand that.  Their mind “wanders” (5074).  Their focus dissolves and their life degenerates.

A quick look at the Hebrew word gives a clue to what is happening.  The most frequent translation in the NASB has to do with fleeing.  The definition has the idea of retreating and being chased away.  You can see that “nest” (7064) and “place” (home NASB) (4725) are parallels.  Here the KJV is more accurate.

So?  What is your place, your home, your nest, your center?  Does the “is” match up with the “should be”?  Only one person can change that.

We will see how the challenge goes. I still feel frisky, at least part of the day.

Grace and peace
