An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Facing It

(Proverbs 25:6 KJV)  Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

I wonder if this is a sword that cuts both ways.  I see the direct application but to be honest, I will probably never be in a situation where a king will know I am alive.  Watching some ritual in England does not qualify for being in the “presence” (6440).  The word means “face” so we are talking about getting into the kings face.

But my thoughts are roaming to the way we might act when we are the “king” in the face of people below us.  For me it might be my students.  It might involve how you treat a waitress or clerk.  Do you lord it over the guy at the carwash?  There is a humility that we need to cultivate as Christians.  The advice here is regarding kings but it also applies to those who serve us.

So?  Apply the love of Christ in all directions.
