An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Everlast Is More Than Boxing Shorts

(Proverbs 8:23 KJV)  I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

The “everlasting” (5769) of the Bible is different from the eternal thoughts of the pagan world.  For Christians this represents a line; for Buddhists, a circle.  For your average garden variety, post modern theist it probably is represented by a fog bank because they live in the present and avoid long term thinking.

I did not see the movie Lion King but I understand it talked about the Circle of Life.  That is a Buddhist concept.  It is the root and foundation of reincarnation, an almost endless circle that eventually leads to Nirvana.  Nirvana is the conscious self being absorbed into the comic oneness.

Christians believe that time began when God created the heavens and the earth.  It will end when the last trumpet sounds.  Extending beyond both points is the infinite line of “everlasting”.  We did not exist before we were conceived.  That end of the line is beyond our reach.  We will exist for eternity, so our choices are important.

So?  Be wise.  Invest in eternity.  Prepare to be everlasting.
