An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Pop Quiz

(Pro 17:3 KJV)  The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

What is it that God is testing when He looks at the heart?  One thought that came to me was the process of keeping my kitchen knife sharp.  I hone it almost every time I use it.  I can tell the difference when I don’t.  For me the test is when I cut the tomatoes.  There is a definite difference between a honed blade and one that needs some work.

I would think that honing would be a kind of testing in the sense it is used here.  One knife guru explained that you don’t need to sharpen a knife very often if you keep it honed.  Sharpening grinds off metal.  I guess you could say it is a major trial for the knife.  Honing simply straightens out the little irregularities.

So?  Pray that God would keep straightening out the little irregularities.  Getting ground down is a lot more difficult.  Maybe you could think of it as a quiz instead of a test.
