An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Taste Testing

(Pro 9:17 KJV)  Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

It should not be surprising how often a verse brings out the same thought, even when separated by years.  I think as I was reading this my under-mind was thinking about the need to curb my appetite and keep my diabetes at bay.  Whatever the reason I again heard that old quote echoing in my mind, “If it feels good it is probably bad for you.”  It have various versions but the point is that we are attracted to things that will destroy us.

I guess it might be a good rule of thumb to be suspicious of anything that is attractive.  If you worry about MSG then be leery of Chinese food that tastes too good.  If you are still single and dating, keep in mind how much money is spent on cosmetics and clothing.  If you are wanting to walk with Jesus beware of anything that sounds congruent with the world around you.

So?  Be vigilant.  It is possible to make the right choices but it is also easy to be deceived.
