An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

Promises, Promises

(Proverbs 1:27 KJV)  When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

Context is so important at times.  This is one of them.  If you are one of those people who always see the glass as half full, you need to look again.  This one is almost empty and these are not words leading to hope.

The promise is “fear” (dread NASB) (6343).  The promise is “destruction” (calamity NASB) (343).  The promise is “distress” (6869a).  The promise is “anguish” (6695b).  When kids tell me they will see me tomorrow I sometimes ask them if that is a threat or a promise.  In this case it is not a threat.  This is a promise of all kinds of nasty things that are going to happen.  It is a promise that offers no hope.  It is definite because these people have refused to respond to the advances of God.

So?  God does not play games.  I trust you are living in the Spirit and walking in obedience.  If you are not there will come a day when God will make a promise.
