An Idea Borrowed

Years ago on a radio program someone shared that they read a chapter in Proverbs every day. Since there are 31 chapters and the longest month has 31 days it allows you to read through Proverbs on a regular basis. I use it as the launch pad for my personal worship time and branch out from there. On this blog I will try to share some of the insights I have in the Word. I will try to organize them in the archive by reference.

How Much Is Enough?

(Proverbs 23:4 KJV)  Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.

How often have we heard stories about men, and now women, who work 80 hour weeks to be successful, provide for their family and build wealth, only to find that as they moved through life the success was fleeting, the family rejected them and money could not buy any of the lost opportunities back.  It is a theme in movies where dad misses the boy’s baseball game and the family is in crisis but he made the big deal.

That is the concern here.  The problem is not working hard.  That is expected.  The problem is wearing yourself out in pursuit of a goal that ruins the important things in life.  While it might be better to be rich and miserable than poor and miserable, it is better to be solvent and happy.  The happiness only comes from the inner peace given by the grace of God.

So?  Get up and get to work.  Earn your keep.  Save and invest.  Don’t destroy yourself and your loved ones in the process.
